In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, please meet Jason LaPorte. Jason teaches the credit recovery program at the Juvenile Detention Center School. In his class, students have the ability to recover lost credits from previous grades. In the credit recovery program, students take online classes and are able to work at their own pace. Jason receives the most satisfaction from seeing his students embrace the process of putting in their time and effort to pass classes. This is Jason’s second year teaching at the Detention Center School and he reports being happy to be a member of our SISD team.
Jason has been married for 11 years to his wife Amie. They have 3 children: Chase, Alexis, and Bo. In their spare time they enjoy running their kids around to practices and coaching many of their teams. They love spending time outdoors and doing anything that involves time with family and friends.
Thank you Jason!
Maintenance to the rescue! Today we had a mama duck and her ducklings on campus. One of her sweet babies fell into a storm drain... No worries, our maintenance crew saved the day! Mommy, ducklings, and baby are doing well. #SaginawISD
In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, we invite you to learn more about Melissa McCommon, SOAR Teacher at the Transitions Center (TC). Melissa has been instrumental in creating a positive climate at TC this year. She has organized and created various shirts for staff to wear, such as 100th day, Rock Your Socks, Autism Awareness, and 150th day! She is currently working on the end of year shirts. All extra-curricular activities are completed on her personal time. Although it seems simple, staff joining together and wearing matching shirts create a bond and sense of community - something we all need. Thank you, Melissa! #SaginawISD #MIteachAppreesh #ThankATeacher #SOAR #TransitionsCenter

It's time for another teacher appreciation moment! Say hello to Connie Griffore, Careers in Education/Teacher Academy Instructor at the Saginaw Career Complex.
Connie has worked tirelessly to innovate within her program in response to the teacher shortage we are facing in education. Two years ago, her program was approved to offer a CTE Early Middle College track, offering students a jump start to their career as a teacher at no cost to them. Just this year, a second track was added, focusing on early childhood. These opportunities were designed to mitigate student barriers and were coordinated with two post-secondary institutions.
Connie is extremely involved at the state level with curriculum development for her program and is regarded as one of the best CTE instructors for Education in the state. Connie embraces challenges with a positive mindset and ALWAYS goes the extra mile for her students. Mrs. Griffore exemplifies not only what an outstanding teacher should be, but the kind of teacher we would all want for our own children. Thanks for everything you do Connie! #SaginawISD #SCC #MIteachAppreesh #ThankATeacher
